Iran: RoboChef Restaurant - where artificial intelligence meets fine dining

Diners at the RoboChef restaurant in north Tehran's Sadat Abad neighbourhood have been served by robots since last December, as footage filmed Thursday shows.

The restaurant's owner Hussein Zibadel explained that their goal was to "get people more familiar with modern technology, for them not just to watch [about] it on television."

SOT, Mehrdad Ahmadi, customer (Farsi): "This idea is very new and amazing. From my point of view, our restaurants are going to improve with technology and I am so glad that we live in a time when we can experience this amazing technology."

SOT, Hussein Zibadel, Owner of Robotchef restaurant (Farsi): "Our goal was to get people more familiar with modern technology, for them not just to watch [about] it on television, [thinking that is is] just dedicated to factories. [In this way] people can be more connected to it. One place that came to my mind where people could come more in touch with the technology was a crowded restaurant. [Here] we explain most of our project on entertainment to everyone, from the elderly to the youth."

SOT, Hussein Zibadel, Owner of Robotchef restaurant (Farsi): "I really didn't expect [such a big] welcome from people. People wait for hours outside until they come in and use our equipment. I think the entertainment section is really more enjoyable for people. We want to unveil next generation that we consider, I hope that see this volume of people."
