One of the users on the social media platform TikTok, an American man named Scott, is defending himself against other users who claim that his Filipino wife, Devine, married him solely for his money and that she finds him less attractive than another man named Dwayne. Scott and Devine first met by complete chance in 2017 when Devine mistook Scott for someone else and messaged him on Facebook.
A mistaken message from Devine to Scott became the initiator of a long-distance emotional relationship between them, which eventually led to marriage. This occurred after Scott proposed to Devine during a trip to the Philippines that same year. Nearly 4 years later, after Devine relocated to the United States, they got married. Up until then, they had nurtured their romantic connection through the internet, but during that time, Scott had traveled to the Philippines 6 times to see Devine in person.
Scott has been dealing with a condition called "Scleroderma" since the age of 13, an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the skin and other parts of the body. Due to the aggressive nature of this illness, Scott spent most of his time at home and missed out on attending high school and college.
At the age of 22, Scott reached the conclusion that he had enough health to engage in work and finally attempt normal and natural experiences. Despite the limitations set by doctors, his acquaintance with Devine encouraged him to embark on journeys. In fact, doctors deemed travel impossible for Scott due to insufficient oxygen levels in his body. Nevertheless, Scott proved them wrong and traveled to the Philippines 6 times alone to see the love of his life. Scott's family also believed that Devine had brought much freshness to his life, boosting his confidence and joy.
Scott has mentioned about this, "The only advice I can offer is to be patient because a long-distance emotional relationship is very challenging, and you always have to be selfless to be present in your emotional partner's life, regardless of the distance, time of day, or circumstances."
